Charles Stiefvater

Charles Christen “Chuck” Stiefvater, age 80, of Burnsville, N.C., entered into eternal rest on Monday, Aug. 2, 2021.  

Born in Clark County, Wis., in 1941, he was a son of the late Edward and Dorothy Feterl Stiefvater.  

Chuck moved to Salem, S.D., as a young boy and grew up there until moving to Port Washington, Wis., in his teens.

After graduating from Port Washington High School, Chuck became a U.S. Marine and honorably served presidential duty with the John F. Kennedy administration.

After completing his service, Chuck returned to Port Washington, where he lived and worked for nearly 25 years. After taking a position with OMC, Chuck eventually relocated to Burnsville, N.C., where he worked for approximately 20 years before retiring.  

He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed gardening.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 30 years Edith Wilson Stiefvater; three children, Lisa Swanke and husband Michael of West Bend, Wis., Jeff Stiefvater and wife Kris of Lincoln, Ill., and Stacey Forkner of Waterford, Wis.; two step-children, Steve Bailey and wife Pam of Burnsville and Janet Campbell and husband Mike of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Karen Gierach and husband Roger of Port Washington, Wis.; brother Jerry Stiefvater and wife Roxy of Slinger, Wis.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Bernadette Stiefvater and Sharon Mueller and his brother DeWayne Stiefvater.  

Services and burial will be held at St. Mary Parish and Cemetery in Salem, S.D.
