Charles F. “Chuck” Schuknecht

Charles F. “Chuck” Schuknecht, age 85, of Chilton died on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Theda Care Regional Medical Center in Neenah.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1941, in Madison, Wis., the son of the late Frederick and Mary (MacLean) Schuknecht.

Chuck grew up in Port Washington, graduating from Port High in 1959.

Following his graduation from college, he married Bonnie Wegner on Dec. 29, 1965, at the Methodist church in Green Bay.

He had already begun his long and storied teaching career in the Chilton Public School District, where he remained until his retirement 36 years later. Even in retirement, Chuck continued to substitute teach in the district where he spent his entire career.

Chuck loved the City of Chilton, the surrounding countryside and the residents of the area. He sat on the Calumet County Hospital Board and the Chilton City Tree Board and served as an alderman for the 3rd Ward in the City of Chilton. With a passion for history, he belonged to the Calumet County Historical Society and volunteered countless hours with the Ledgeview Nature Center.

During his life, Chuck enjoyed collecting unique and historical stamps and coins.  He loved the outdoors, where he could tend to his garden, feed the birds in his yard, go canoeing and cross country skiing, bicycle miles and miles and head out to state campgrounds to rough it from time to time. He continually stayed up on current events and pored over newspaper articles and magazines.

Chuck truly cared for the people in his life, whether they were family, friends or students he had taught throughout the years. It was not uncommon for him to find something that reminded him of an individual that he knew and he was always excited to share it with that person. It was his way of showing care and appreciation for all of the people around him.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie; his children Dan Schuknecht and his significant other Elizabeth, Steve  (Kallie) Schuknecht, Megan Schuknecht and her significant other Dave Wager and Jess Schuknecht and his significant other Alison Wood; grandchildren Milena and Clara Schuknecht, Theo Wager and Ella and Eli Wood; and his siblings Eileen (Carl) Huber, Margaret Fassett, Frederick (Randi) Schuknecht, Mary Kay Schuknecht and Joan (John) Nicholas. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Marie Schuknecht and Jane Lyne.
