CG-Belgium wrestlers start season with title

The Cedar Grove-Belgium High School wrestling team started the season with a dual victory and the Rockets’ fourth straight Lomira Duals title.

One day after beating Homestead, 54-30, on Dec. 2, the Rockets beat Lomira, 51-24; Chilton/Hilbert, 54-22; and Menomonee Falls, 72-12.

Five Rockets went 3-0 on the day.

Joe Schoeder at 182 pounds pinned Jordan Blackmon of Menomonee Falls in 45 seconds, Isaiah Giese of Lomira in 1 minute, 37 seconds; and beat Phoenix Fortune of Chilton/Hilbert, 8-6, in overtime.

Jesse Burg at 132 pounds pinned Samuel Strangfeld of Menomonee Falls in 1:47; Kobe Sacotte of Lomira in 1:25; and David Benhke of Chilton/Hilbert in 1:54.

Mason Hoopman at 152 pounds pinned Tyler Wallinger of Menomonee Falls in 2:25, won a 15-0 technical fall over Marek Lisiecki of Lomira and pinned Gus Vandenhouten of Chilton/Hilbert in 3:24.

Winston Reichle at 160 pounds pinned Clayton Langer of Menomonee Falls in 42 seconds; James Walt of Lomira in 21 seconds; and Slaytt Nolan of Chilton/Hilbert in 1:24.

Owen Morgan at 170 pounds pinned Tyson Brunette of Menomonee Falls in 48 seconds; Easton Neuman of Lomira in 51 seconds; and Sharnoby Ahmed of Chilton/Hilbert in 1:03.

Against Homestead on Dec. 2, Hoopman, Schoeder, Jordan Platner, Diego Morales, Carsen Voskuil, Seth Race, Burg and Gavin Davies each pinned their opponents.

Grabowski leads Port in dual tourney

Port Washington finished fourth of six teams at Saturday’s Luxembourg-Casco Spartan Duals.

The hosts won, followed by Bay Port and Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln. Sheboygan Falls was fifth.

Port beat Sheboygan Falls, 54-24, and lost to Luxembourg-Casco, 57-18; Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 54-24; and Bay Port, 60-21.

Brandon Grabowski at 160 pounds went 4-0. He beat Ryan Routhieaux of Luxembourg-Casco, 4-3; pinned Gavin Thompson of Sheboygan Falls in 28 seconds, Mark Jeske of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln in 3:15 and Colton Zipp of Bay Port in 4:16.

Brady Krueger at 152 went 3-1 with a forfeit. He pinned George Herlache of Luxembourg-Casco in 1:07 and beat Lucas Bean of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln, 5-1. He was pinned by Jacob Ward of Bay Port in 3:26.

Freshman Garrett Kawczynski went 4-0 with two forfeits. He pinned Caleb Salentine of Luxembourg-Casco in 1:48 and Tanner Gormanson of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln in 1:57.

Port was to wrestle Grafton and Cedarburg on Wednesday, Dec. 7. The Pirates take on Cedar Grove-Belgium at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon on Thursday, Dec. 8, and hosts West Bend East on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Krause wins his weight class for Grafton

Grafton started its season by scoring 153.5 points and taking 10th of 16 teams in the Papermaker Invitational in Kimberly on Saturday.

Coleman won with 484.5, followed by Freedom’s 476.

Nathan Krause won the 220-pound weight class. He pinned Devin Otto of Coleman in 51 seconds, Tillman Sabel of Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah/Howards Grove in 30 seconds, Lucas Vangrinsven of Freedom in 1:55, won an 11-1 major decision over Ezra Ducat of Kewaunee and in the finals pinned Henry Vanderheiden of Freedon in 4:39.

Jacob Quint at 120 pounds went 1-2 and finished seventh. Ben Birch at 195 pounds went 1-3 and finished eighth.

Grafton was to wrestle Slinger and Port on Wednesday, Dec. 7, compete in an invite at Sun Prairie East on Saturday, Dec. 10, and host a double dual on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Ozaukee faces tough test early

Ozaukee scored 170 points and finished 14th of 17 teams at the Tom McGarvie Earlybird Scramble in Watertown on Saturday.

D.C. Everest won with 435 points, followed by Winneconne’s 404 and Watertown’s 399.

Warrior Tayten Platner at 120 pounds went 3-2 and finished third. He pinned Gabe Smith-Guadalupe of Pewaukee in 51 seconds, won a 21-4 technical fall over Uriel Catalan of Waukesha North; and won a 15-4 major decision over Ben Logan of Watertown. He was pinned by Try Zemke of Winneconne in 2:38 and by Wyatt Magolski of New London in 2:31.

Mya Delleree at 113 pounds, Skyler Mills at 195 and Jovan Lopez at 285 each took fourth.

Delleree won a 7-2 decision over Dylan Boel of Pewaukee, lost an 8-1 decision to Tyler Modjewski of D.C. Everest, pinned David Mauer of Westosha Central in 2:20 and was pinned by William Christopher of New London in 2:00. In the third-place match, she lost an 11-0 major decision to Modjewski.

Mills pinned Landon Mathis of Westosha Central in 2:35 and Tiem Nguyen of Middleton in 1:24; was pinned by Owen Sjoberg of Watertown in 1:26 and Kyle Schmidt of D.C. Everest in 1:05; and lost an 18-6 major decision to Chris Pena Soto of Waukesha North.

Lopez pinned Daniel Simon of Winneconne in 1:11; won an 10-5 decision over Edward Gritzner of Badger; was pinned by De Evian Ross of New London in 37 seconds and Mason McNeil of Westosha Central in 3:30; and lost an 11-2 major decision to Matt Aurit of Mineral Point.

Ozaukee hosts a triangular on Thursday, Dec. 8, and wrestles in a tournament in Hartford on Saturday, Dec. 10.
