Cedar Grove-Belgium High School’s volleyball team went 2-2 in its home invite on Saturday with the biggest benefit being the chance to see a variety of competition.

The Rockets swept Omro and Milwaukee Reagan, and got swept by Peshtigo and Brillion.

Stats from the day aside from the Brillion match had Lauren Lueth with 19 kills, Claire Lukens with 10 and Asia Ingelse with nine. Brooklyn Cherney had 23 digs. Lukens had 19 and Kylie Gulke had 18. London Rulli had 26 assists and Lauren Hopeman had 10.

“Brillion is a top-10 team in Division 3. It’s nice seeing them every year. That’s a playoff-level team that we can figure out how to play against,” coach Cailey Jeske-Winker said.

The Rockets, 7-11 overall and 1-2 in the Big East Conference, host Ozaukee on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Ozaukee drops two matches

Ozaukee got swept by Sheboygan Lutheran on Sept. 15, then lost, 3-1, to Sheboygan Christian last Thursday.

“We’re not playing bad volleyball at all. We’re not putting it all together at the same time,” coach Amy Barnes said.

The Warriors were missing 6-foot, 1-inch middle blocker Kendyl Schmitz to a back injury, and another Warrior was sick, causing some juggling of the lineup.

Sheboygan Lutheran won, 25-14, 25-14, 25-23. Maddie Barnes, the coach’s daughter, had nine kills. Helen Utecht and Adalyn Krenek each had nine digs. Utecht had 17 assists.

Ozaukee lost to Sheboygan Christian, 25-18, 19-25, 25-13, 25-15.

Krenek and Maddie Barnes each had 10 kills. Kenedeigh Harness had 11 digs. Barnes had 10, Utecht had nine and Trahern Bartels had eight. Utecht had 20 assists.

The Warriors, 6-7 overall and 0-4 in the Big East Conference, play at Kohler on Thursday, Sept. 24, in a tournament in Port Washington on Saturday, Sept. 26, and at Cedar Grove-Belgium on Sept. 29.

Grafton seeking offense

Grafton’s soccer team lost at Homestead, 7-0, last Thursday. The Black Hawks, 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the North Shore Conference, hosts Nicolet on Thursday, Sept. 24, and plays at University School of Milwaukee on Monday, Sept. 28.

RLO wins consolation title

At the Kiel Tournament on Saturday, Random Lake/Ozaukee’s soccer team lost, 1-0, to Winnebago Lutheran, beat Denmark, 4-2, and beat Roncalli, 2-0.

Coach Matt Wilson said the second game of the tournament should have been canceled due to weather. The grass field his team played on had standing water all over it and a hole filled with water. Denmark pulled out due to player safety issues after losing to RLO.

Wilson praised his team for overcoming the elements and playing well.

Jaxon Klas and Joey Pierce each scored twice.

Against Roncalli, Pierce and Forrest Keller each scored.

Last Thursday, RLO lost at Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran, 6-1. Pierce scored on a Max Klaus assist.

On Sept. 15, RLO lost to Howards Grove/Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, 3-2. Klas and Pierce scored. Jackson Meyer had an assist.

RLO, 4-5 overall and 1-5 in the Big East, hosts St. Mary Catholic on Sept. 24 and Cedar Grove-Belgium on Sept. 29.

CG-Belgium soccer splits its last four

The Rockets beat Ronalli, 3-2, on Sept. 10, and Richland Center, 3-2, on Sept. 12.

They lost, 8-1, at Sheboygan Falls on Sept. 15 and 7-3 to Kiel last Thursday.

The Rocket Invite was canceled due to weather.

The Rockets host Salam on Sept. 24 and play at RLO on Sept. 29.

Schmidt stays near the top

Brynlee Schmidt finished fourth of 250 runners in 20 minutes, 23.2 seconds in the Angel Cross Country Invitational at the University of Wisconsin last Friday. The girl Rockets scored 326 points and were 13th of 20 teams.

The boys had 343 points and were 12th of 28 teams. Caleb De Troye led the team, taking 36th in 18:01.6. Nolan Brill was 42nd in 18:08.7.
