It took extra time, but Cedar Grove-Belgium High School’s soccer team won its third game of the season at Random Lake on Tuesday.
The No. 18-seeded Rockets topped the No. 15-seeded Rams, 2-1, in overtime in a Division 4 first-round game.
The Rockets play at No. 2-seeded University School of Milwaukee at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Tuesday was a revenge game after the Rockets lost, 5-2, to the Rams on Oct. 3 in the regular season.
The Rockets last Thursday knocked off rival Ozaukee, 5-1, for their second win against the Warriors in as many games.
It was the most physical game of the season on the Rockets’ senior night, coach Elias Garza said. Dylan Quint suffered a season-ending injury early in the game, and the team rallied around him.
Brady Heyden and Luis Gonzales scored to put the Rockets up, 2-0 at halftime.
Ozaukee scored in the second half, but Matt Voskuil answered “with an amazing header” off a corner kick, assisted by Will Lautenschlaeger.
Calvin Lutzke and Brady each scored to bring the total to five. Ashanti Olofinitila had an assist.
Garza said Matt Peterson played well and kept his composure in goal, making some quality saves.
“The entire team came together in front of an animated crowd, which was great to see,” Garza said.
The Rockets on Oct. 15 lost to Sheboygan Christian/Lutheran, 5-0.
No. 19-seeded Ozaukee lost at No. 14-seeded Faith Christian, 4-2, on Tuesday to end their season.
