Catch-and- release trout season to start

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has announced the early inland streams catch-and-release season for trout will open on Thursday, Jan. 7, and run until May 5.

During this time, anglers may fish for Wisconsin’s four inland trout species, but all trout caught will need to be immediately released.

Anglers may start harvesting fish following bag limit and length requirements when the hook-and-line season opens on May 6.

Participating in the catch and release season requires an inland trout stamp in addition to a 2022-2023 fishing license, which is valid until March 31. Starting April 1, a 2023-2024 fishing license and new inland trout stamp are required.
