Carolyn MacLaurin

Carolyn MacLaurin, 74, of Belgium, Wis., passed away at home surrounded by her husband and daughter on Dec. 28, 2021, after a two-month battle with a complicated case of Covid that resulted in multiple terminal conditions.

Carolyn was the first-born child of John (Jack) Birong and Mona Eisenhower. She was born on June 5, 1947, in Rochester, Minn. Her parents went on to birth four more children, whom Carolyn prided herself in helping raise her siblings.

After Carolyn graduated high school, she continued caring for her family and concurrently studied art education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

After graduation, Carolyn began teaching art in Fort Atkinson, Wis., where she met the love of her life, Michael MacLaurin, in 1971. They married in 1976, and the two had their first and only child, Catherine (Katie), in 1982.

For 27 years, she taught elementary school art in the Milwaukee Public School system.

Carolyn was the utmost devoted and supportive wife, mother, daughter, sibling, friend and teacher.

She dedicated her life to caring for everything around her. She was wildly passionate about her family, art, gardening and animals.

After retirement, she devoted her time to gardening with Michael, maintaining extraordinary flower and vegetable gardens on their property, caring for their cats and horses and creating works of art.

She became an Ozaukee County Master Gardener and served as the president of the Fredonia Area Garden Club. She also volunteered at Riveredge Nature Center, taught summer school art in Port Washington and was a substitute teacher in Cedar Grove.

Carolyn was predeceased by her father and mother. She is survived by her husband Michael and their child Catherine as well as her four siblings, Steven, Marcia, Melinda and Pamela Birong.

No services will be held.
