Caboose restoration is cause for a party at Pioneer Village

The Ozaukee County Historical Society will celebrate its renovation of the 1940s caboose with a party and ribbon-cutting beginning at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Pioneer Village at Hawthorne Hills County Park in the Town of Fredonia.

The vintage Milwaukee Road caboose is positioned next to a completely refurbished historic train depot that was moved to the Pioneer Village site.

Visitors will be able to step inside the restored caboose.

OCHS is in the midst of a fundraising campaign to move the historic Saukville firehouse to Pioneer Village. It will be placed near the train depot and caboose.

Pioneer Village is open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. through Oct. 30.

Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for students age 5 through 18 and seniors age 65 and older. Children younger than 5 are free.
