Bullhawks get the chance to compete

The Grafton/Cedarburg high schools’ gymnastics team finally held a meet under one-year interim coach Gale Sigler, also Port Washington’s coach, Jan. 4 at Homestead.

The Highlanders won, 134.9 to 123.325.

Senior Amanda Babcock led the team in every event: 8.35 on vault, 8.075 on bars, 8.45 on beam and 9.15 on floor.

Alaina Jarmuz was second on every event: 7.725 on vault, 7.8 on bars, 8.05 on beam and 7.775 on floor.

Lacey Greicar had 7.65 on vault. Sierra Jarvis had 7.65 on beam and 7.45 on floor.

“The girls got a good idea of where they are to start their season,” Sigler said.

The Port Washington gymnasts lost to Whitefish Bay on Jan. 5, 134.3 to 111.175.

Audrey Dickson led the way with 8.3 on floor, 8.0 on beam, 7.7 on bars and 8.05 on vault.

Emma Bollech had 7.55 on floor and 7.55 on vault, and Liz Ernest had 7.65 on vault and 7.125 on floor.

The score was down from last month’s season opener, but Sigler said the team will continue to add new skills and build depth.

On Saturday, the Bullhawks and Pirates competed in the Highlander Invite at Homestead. Hartford won with 137.475 points. The Bullhawks were ninth with 122.575 points and Port was 12th of 14 teams with 106.725.

Babcock was eighth on vault with 8.5, sixth on bars with 8.4 and had 8.75 on beam. She hurt her knee during the floor warm-up and couldn’t compete.

Jarvis had 8.0 on vaul and 7.475 on floor. Jarmuz had 7.6 on bars and 7.7 on beam.

For Port, Dickson had 8.275 on vault, 7.75 on bars and 8.4 on floor. Ernest led on beam with 7.425. Dickson had 7.225. Ernest had 7.8 on vault and 7.375 on floor.

The Bullhawks compete at West Bend West on Wednesday and against Port Washington at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20.

Port was to compete at Homestead on Tuesday before facing the Bullhawks.
