Buccaneers pull off undefeated season in dominating fashion
THE PORT WASHINGTON Buccaneers’ fifth and sixth-grade team went 9-0 this season. Port Washington fifth and sixth-grade Buccaneers coach Kevin Koepke said he thought his team had a chance at a decent season when he first saw the roster.
Even he might not have imagined these extreme results.
The Buccaneers went 9-0, outscoring their opponents 246-43, including five shutouts.
“The kids worked really hard at practice. That’s where you win games,” Koepke said.
Game opponents and scores were: Plymouth, 26-0; Howards Grove, 34-0; Random Lake, 35-22; Oostburg, 26-7; Kohler/Lutheran/Christian, 27-0; Ozaukee, 25-0; a second Plymouth team, 20-6; Manitowoc, 33-8; and Sheboygan, 20-0.
“We always said ‘Hey, congrats on the win. We’ve got work to do. We’ve got to move on and get ready for the next game,’” Koepke said of the message to his team.
“That was the culture we were trying to get with every kid.”
The team played under the lights Tuesday nights on the Port Washington High School’s turf field, which the players loved, Koepke said.
