A book vending machine? It’s all the rage at Saukville Elementary thanks to $5,000 donation.

Saukville Elementary School may not be the newest or most high-tech school around, but it has one of the latest devices intended to promote reading — a book vending machine ­— thanks in large part to a $5,000 donation from the Ozaukee County chapter of 100 Women Who Care. The machine was waiting for students when they returned to classes last week, and to celebrate Principal Jae Henderson (left) cut a ribbon held by Darrell Williams, the assistant state superintendent of the Division for Libraries and Technology. The vending machine takes tokens, which students earn with good behavior and for their birthdays. Jacob Poytinger (left photo) used his token to get a “Fly Guy” book.             Photos by Sam Arendt
