The 2021-22 school year will start Sept. 1 and end June 1, 2022, with spring break being held the last week of March, according to a school calendar approved by the Northern Ozaukee School Board Monday night.

The calendar includes off days on Wednesday, Nov. 24, the day before Thanksgiving, and Dec. 23, the day before Christmas Eve.

In a survey sent out to parents, 91% of the respondents said they want the Wednesday off before Thanksgiving.

Written notes added to the survey also urged the district to make Dec. 23 an off day to provide more time for families during the holidays, Supt. Dave Karrels told board members.

“This idea was the most consistent theme of survey notes that were added for consideration,” Karrels said.

The survey also showed that 78.2% of respondents favored continuing to have most professional learning days at the start of the school year and 55.1% were in favor of keeping the school year compact, compared to 33.5% who favored ending the year later in June.

Having spring break the week of March 21 was coordinated with other area school districts, Karrels said.

The school year includes 174 student contact days and 188 teacher contact days, meeting the number of days required by the state.
