Bird Observatory to host tours, plant sale

The Lake Michigan Bird Observatory is hosting a number of events this spring, including outings at Afterglow Farm in the Town of Port Washington, a plant sale and a nature journaling series.

Outings at Afterglow Farm will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, Wednesday, June 17, and Wednesday, July 15.

The tours will be guided by a member of the observatory staff.

A native plant sale will be held in Port Washington’s Upper lake Park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30.

The World Migratory Bird Day event will also include a guided bird walk, live raptor show by Pine View Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, plant advice and information from a variety of the observatory’s partners, including ArtServancy, Friends of North Point, International Crane Foundation, Maywood Environmental Park, Ozaukee County Parks Department, Riveredge Nature Center, Save Our Songbirds, Sweet Water, Van der Brohe Arboretum and Wild Ones.

A two-part nature journaling series will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. June 13 and Aug. 22.

Those attending will be led through guided exercises and progressive skill building.

The $45 fee includes a journaling kit.

Those attending are asked to bring portable seating and a bag for supplies.

“Building Bird Habitat on Any Scale,” a program on how to create bird friendly environments in places large and small, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 25.

Those attending must be a member of the Natural Resource Foundation of Wisconsin.
