Thomas Jefferson Middle School eighth-grader Emma Kasza-James rode a perfect mountain bike race at Lowes Creek County Park in Eau Claire on Sunday and her jersey showed it.

“She managed to have a flawless race and from the start she had the lead spot and kept it all the way to the end,” Ozaukee mountain bike coach Anthony James said.

“She got her first ‘W’ of the year and got the coveted Race Leaders Jersey.”

Seventh-grader Reese Kasza-James took eighth of 30 riders on the 6.1-mile course, despite an intentional stop.

“She also stopped on course to help a girl who crashed and went in one of the valleys,” James said.

“Sometimes it is not always about the race.”

Freshman Ronon Monahan took 26th of 42 racers in his first-ever race.

The team competes in Wausau this weekend.
