Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ozaukee marks 50 years

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ozaukee County celebrated 50 years of matching adult mentors with children during a May 9 event at the Ozaukee Nonprofit Center that brought together people who have volunteered and led the agency over the years. One of those people was the organization’s first executive director Mary Goeks (center in top photo), who posed with former volunteers and board members (from left) Bradley LeDuc, Joe Delucia, Marlene Mravik, Mark Schowalter, Dave Antoine and Lawrence Moye. Schowalter (left in lower right photo) was the first recipient of the LeDuc Award, which recognizes outstanding volunteerism and is named for the man standing next to him, Bradley LeDuc, who founded Big Brothers Agency to Ozaukee in 1974. LeDuc received the Founder’s Award. Brian Hunter, who posed with his Little Brother Aayden, was named the School-based Big Brother of the Year, and Brad Breitengross, who posed with his Little Brother Everett (lowest photo) was named the Community-Based Big Brother of the Year.
