Bernard ‘Spike’ Schreiner

 

Bernard E. “Spike” Schreiner passed away at Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee on Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 72.  He drifted peacefully into his eternal rest, leaving behind his fantastic legacy of humor, snark, teaching, photography, joy of family and so much more.

Bernard was born on April 22, 1947, to Bernard and Myrtle (Godersky) Schreiner.  

He was united in marriage to Judith Sudbrink on Aug. 23, 1969.  

Bernard served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1976.  

He spent 45 years as a dedicated high school science teacher. He taught at both Dominican High School and Our Lady of Good Hope and coached girls basketball for many years.

In his free time, he enjoyed reading, listening to music, amateur photography and spending time with his granddaughters.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife Judith Schreiner; son Jonathan (Micki) Schreiner; daughter Elizabeth (Jason) Philps; granddaughters Arlee, Abbi, Ivy, Olive,  Aria and Una; sisters Linda (Thomas) Barth, Renee Schreiner and Laurie (Phil) Heer; brother Randy (Connie) Schreiner; and sisters-in-law Audrey (Kerry) Kanies and Alberta (Fred) Mess. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues.      

A celebration of life was held on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave., Cedarburg.  Pastor Matthew Rose of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hartland officiated.

Spike’s family received visitors from noon until the service.  

In lieu of flowers, donations to the family will be used to purchase a memorial bench at a local park in Bernard’s name.
