A 34-year-old Port Washington man awaiting trial on criminal charges in four counties now faces additional charges after he refused to leave a Port bar, ran from police and nearly kicked open the door of a squad car, according to a criminal complaint filed in Ozaukee County Circuit Court.

Adam J. Borgenhagen pleaded not guilty last week to nine charges stemming from a Friday, March 26, incident.

At 1:35 a.m. that morning, officers were called to Rascal’s Tavern because Borgenhagen refused to leave the bar, the complaint states.

A bartender told authorities that Borgenhagen had gotten into altercations with other patrons throughout the night and acted aggressively toward several women. After the bartender escorted him outside and locked the door behind him, Borgenhagen re-entered the bar through another door and continued harassing people. Patrons then escorted Borgenhagen out of the bar, which is when he saw officers and ran.

When officers caught up with Borgenhagen in a parking lot, he refused to comply with orders to stop and get on the ground. Two officers were able to direct him to the ground, where he continued to resist efforts to handcuff him, according to the complaint.

While being driven to jail, Borgenhagen, who according to accounts and his appearance had been drinking, repeatedly kicked the rear driver’s side door. The officer who was driving noticed he was close to kicking the door open, pulled over and ordered him to stop, which he did not do even after being threatened with a taser.

At the jail, a marijuana cigarette was found in his pocket, the complaint states.

Borgenhagen is charged with felony bail jumping, second-offense possession of marijuana, also a felony, and four counts of misdemeanor bail jumping, as well as disorderly conduct, resisting an officer and criminal damage to property, all misdemeanors.

In January, he was charged with one felony count of battery or threat to a judge, prosecutor or law enforcement official in Shawano County. He was released from jail after posting $2,500 bail.

He is facing misdemeanor charges in Menominee and Sheboygan counties, and was free on bail in connection with a 2020 Ozaukee County case at the time of the March 26 incidents.

Borgenhagen is being held in the Ozaukee County jail in lieu of $8,000 bail.
