Bank gives the gift of shade

This week’s weather has shown the need for what the Village of Fredonia has in mind for its PWSB Splash Zone.

Shade.

Port Washington State Bank, which received naming rights for the attraction with a $50,000 donation, has now committed another $65,000 toward a new pavilion at Marie Kraus Park near the Splash Zone.

“At Port Washington State Bank, we believe in supporting projects that enhance quality of life for the communities we serve,” bank president and CEO James Schowalter, said in a press release. “The PWSB Splash Zone has already become a go-to spot for families, and we’re excited to build on that momentum with the addition of this new pavilion. Creating a shaded, welcoming space right next to the action means more opportunities for connection, celebration, and everyday moments that matter.”

The pad cost about $350,000, with much of that money raised via donations. In addition, Andrew J  Construction donated labor.

“The success of the PWSB Splash Zone has demonstrated what can be accomplished when local government, businesses and residents work together toward a common goal,” Village Administrator Christophe Jenkins said.

“This extraordinary commitment from Port Washington State Bank will allow us to continue enhancing Marie Kraus Park by creating a space where families can gather, celebrate special occasions and enjoy everything the park has to offer. We are incredibly grateful for their continued investment in the Village of Fredonia.”

The money will be given to the village when the pavilion is ready to be built, Jenkins said. Design options are being examined.

The Splash Zone opened for a few minutes with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Nov. 1.

In May, a grand opening was held, and the PWSB Splash Zone opened for the season.
