Audrey E. Liebenstein

Mrs. Audrey Liebenstein, formerly of Port Washington, Wis., passed away at her residence in Scottsville, N.Y., after a long period of declining health, very much missing the ability to take a walk or a drive with her beloved dog. She was 99 years old.
Audrey was born in Port Washington on Aug. 19,1920, the daughter of Anthony Erlwig and Emma Wilke Erlwig.
She began teaching in a one-room school, eventually completed a bachelor’s degree and taught another 23 years, mostly kindergarten classes of 50 students at Lincoln Elementary School in Port Washington.
On Oct. 2, 1943, Audrey was married to her high school sweetheart, Bert Liebenstein, a comptroller for Fromm Laboratories. They were married for 62 years.
At age 90, Audrey moved to Scottsville, N.Y., to live next door to her daughter Nancy and family, which included Carol’s adopted daughter, Valentina Liebenstein.
She is survived by her daughter Nancy Liebenstein and her husband Mark Smith, and their children Evan, Chloe and Taylor Smith. She is further survived by her sister Shirley Helms, sister-in-law Marilyn Erlwig, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband Bert, her children Bob and Carol, her brother Kenneth Erlwig and her sister Elinor Even.
Funeral services celebrating Audrey’s life will be scheduled at a later date. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Bert in Union Cemetery, Port Washington, Wis.
