Art workshops, book clubs on tap in Port

A series of classes, book club meetings and special events will be held in May at the Niederkorn Library in Port Washington.

“Art With A Twist: Anything But a Paintbrush” is a series of art classes for teens and adults.

The 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21, session will help participants ages 14 and older explore what techniques and tools will work best to make a painting of their choice without a paintbrush.

All supplies will be provided. Advance registration is suggested.

Youth activities

Storytimes will be held at 10 a.m.  Tuesdays and Wednesdays through May 13.

The storytimes, which have a different theme each week, are best suited for preschoolers.

  The Pokémon Trading Card Club will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2.

Those attending may trade cards, and each person will receive a new-to-them card from the library.

A STEM Studio will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 13.

The studio is for children ages 8 to 12 who like to create art and build projects. Each session focuses on a specific craft project, art project or STEM themed building activity made with supplies provided by the library.

The Lego Building Club for children 5 and older will meet from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 25.

A sensory playtime will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, May 22.

The playtime will include a variety of tactile, sensory activity stations that children younger than 13 may free to explore with their caregiver.

“Lilo and Stitch” will be shown at 6 p.m. Friday, May 15.

Those attending are invited to bring beach towels to sit on. They will be able to make paper flower leis and dine on popcorn and Hawaiian Punch.

Adult and teen activities

“An Intro to Email” will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 4.

The computer basics class will teach participants what a computer is, how to use a mouse and keyboard, what email is, how to set up an account and how to reply to and send emails.

A grief support group will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays, May 6 and 20. The group is facilitated by Compassus Hospice.

  The D&D PW Bookwyrms meet from 5 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays, providing a place for players and game masters of all experience levels to enjoy gaming.

  Job seeker assistance will be provided from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, May 13 and 27. Job seekers can learn about free employment tools and resources with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development and Job Center of Wisconsin.

Those attending are urged to book a time in advance.

  A short story hour will be held at 1 p.m.

Wednesday, May 13, at the Port Washington Senior Center.

The Friday Morning Book Talk will meet at 9:30 a.m. May 8.

The Novel Ideas Book Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 18.

The books chosen for the clubs will be available at the library for check out.

The Bring Your Own Book Club meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Cavelier Wine Bar.

Those attending are asked to share the book they are currently reading or just finished, no matter the genre.

  Work in Progress Wednesday will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 27.

Those attending are invited to bring any project they are working on, such as knitting, crocheting, painting, drawing or writing.

The Teen Advisory Board for students in grades seven to 11 will meet from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, to plan for next year’s Teen Cafe activities.

Time spent on the advisory board will count toward volunteer or service hours for school. Snacks will be provided.

A Medicare workshop will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 4.

The workshop will focus on how to sign up for Medicare, coordinating coverage between Medicare and employee plans, what Medicare coverage includes and the associated costs, prescription drug plans, Wisconsin SeniorCare and Medicare Advantage Plans.

A Veteran Art Festival session on sculptures will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 9.

Bookends and nautical-themed items will be created by veterans and their families. All materials will be provided.

An information session about Dementia Friends, a program to help people living with dementia and the things that can be done to support someone with the disease, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 12.

Following the information session there will be a community resource fair from 2 to 3 p.m.
