Art Uselding

Mr. Art Uselding of Appleton, formerly of Belgium, passed away at Birch Hill Health Services in Shawano while surrounded by his family in the early morning hours of Sunday, Nov. 2, 2025. He was 80 years old.

Arthur was born in Port Washington on Jan. 21, 1945, the son of Arthur N. and Julia (nee Kraus) Uselding.

The family lived in the Belgium area and Arthur attended local schools, graduating from Port Washington High School before attaining his bachelor’s degree at Lakeland College.

On June 9, 1973, Art was united in marriage with Clara Ann “Ann” Schmitt at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lake Church.

Art worked for a short while at Port Washington State Bank before taking on a job as a nursing home administrator. The family lived in many different areas of the state before settling in Appleton in 2001. Art retired in 2007 but was a nursing home administrator at heart until the day he passed.

A current member of Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberely, his home parish was always St. Mary Lake Church, currently Divine Savior Parish. Art was active in the Catholic Order of Foresters, Nativity Court 1592. He was installed as the recoding secretary at the age of 16 and remained in that position until last year — almost 63 years! He also belonged to the Third Order of St Francis when he was younger.

Art was a passionate gardener and enjoyed creating latch-hook wall hangings as well as traveling with his wife. He and Ann savored going out to eat and loved the challenge of scheduling appointments around their favorite dining spots. Above all else, family was most important to him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Ann of Appleton, sons Mark of Oshkosh and Joe of Whitewater and granddaughter Eva. Art is further survived by his brother John (Donna) Uselding of Fort Worth, Texas, brother-in-law Robert Prom of Belgium, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends, and the family’s cats.  He was preceded in death by sisters Marie Prom and Geraldine Uselding.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2025, at Divine Savior Parish, Holy Cross Chapel, 5330 County Rd. B, Belgium. Father Don Thimm will preside. The family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Art will be laid to rest beside his family in St. Mary Parish Cemetery, Lake Church, at a later date.

Any memorials will be donated to Birch Hill Health Services or to Alzheimer’s research in his name.

Eernisse Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
