Art Museum exhibits closing, opening

A series of exhibits are ending and beginning in the coming weeks at the Cedarburg Art Museum.

“Deeply Rooted: Small Family Farms,” a series of photographs by Leslie Witte, runs through Aug. 2.

Through her work, Witte examines everyday life on a farm, inspired by her own upbringing at Cedarburg’s own Witte’s Vegetable Farm.

She offers a glimpse of the effort that goes into the production of the food people consume.

“This is Cedarburg: Cedarburg Landscapes and Plein Air Paintings” will also end Aug. 2.

The show features landscapes and plein air paintings from the museum’s collection, bringing together historic 20th century paintings of local landscapes alongside the winners of the Paint Cedarburg Plein Air Competition.

Two exhibits will open on Aug. 6.

“Every Artist Matters,” which runs through Aug. 23, showcases art made by participants in the museum’s classes for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The opening reception will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 8.

“Ephemeral Florals,” which also runs through Aug. 23, looks at flowers in artworks from the museum’s permanent collection.

Curator Nikki Ranney will host a lecture on the history of the flower in art at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 12.

“Forward: Wisconsin Artists on America’s Pursuit of Happiness” will run from Aug. 27 to Nov. 8, with an opening reception at 5 p.m. Sept. 3.

Curator remarks will be made at 5:30 p.m.

In honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary, the exhibit showcases artists from across the decades exploring themes central to the American identity, such as labor, agriculture, leisure and conflict

The museum at W63 N675 Washington Ave. is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
