Area auto races get rained out
The Plymouth Dirt Track races on Saturday and Slinger Speedway races on Sunday were rained out.
For Plymouth, it was the first rainout of the season after 14 consecutive events to start the year, “which is believed to be the latest first rainout of any season in the 70-year history of the track,” Jeff Pederson of Pedal Down Promotions said in an email.
On Saturday, Aug. 14, racing is scheduled to resume featuring 360 sprint cars, late models, grand nationals and B mods. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m.
Autograph night, which had been scheduled for last Saturday, is rescheduled for Aug. 21 and will be combined with kids’ night. The first 200 children will receive free checkered flags and backpacks. Glow sticks will be handed out, and a candy drop will be held.
At Slinger, fan appreciation night was rained out.
This Sunday, Aug. 15, is Carl Wegner Memorial Night. Gates open at 5 p.m. with qualifying at 5:20 p.m. and racing at 6:30 p.m. Late models, sportsman, Slinger Bees, Slinger Sixers and figure eights will race.
Fans are asked to bring a toy for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Closet.
