Aloysius ‘Al’ A. Reiss

Aloysius A. Reiss passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2020. He was 80 years old.  

Al was born in Dewey County, S.D., on Aug. 20, 1940, to parents Antone and Margaret (Schell) Reiss.  

Growing up in Trial City, S.D., Al enjoyed riding horses and working on his family’s farm.   

Al served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After marrying, he and his wife Mary moved to Wisconsin, where he raised his family. Al worked as a machinist at Mercury Marine for over 35 years.  

Al was a jack-of-all-trades who enjoyed being creative with his hands. He was able to fix anything that came his way. Many weekends he could be found in his garage working on cars, rebuilding engines or tinkering with his beloved ’66 Impala. When not in his garage, you could find Al sitting around a bonfire telling his kids and grandchildren his many stories or simply listening to Johnny Cash songs.

Al is survived by his wife of 53 years  Mary (nee Mindt) Reiss; children Rene (Mark) Slezak, Susan (Gary) Wilger, Randall Reiss, Laurel (John) Werner and Jeffrey (Danielle) Reiss; 15 grandchildren; and siblings Leo (Mollie) Reiss, Loretta (Herman) Hulm, Ray (Pam) Reiss and Bernita Schumacher.  

Al was preceded in death by his parents, brother Antone Jr. and brother-in-law Bob Schumacher.   

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, at St. John XXIII Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 551 Johnson St., Port Washington, WI 53074, at 3:30 p.m. Father Patrick Wendt will preside.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington, WI 53074.  

Al will be laid to rest in his home state of South Dakota.
