The College Corner

September 23, 2026

Just like old times for former Rockets

Wisconsin Lutheran College’s soccer got taste of Cedar Grove-Belgium nostalgia in a 2-0 win at Ripon on Sept. 3.

Sophomore Grace Konzak, who is fourth all-time in girls’ assists in high school, scored a college assist on a free kick when she passed to her former teammate, freshman Gracie Schmidt.

“I was about 45 yards out from the goal, and Gracie was around the top of the box. The ball I played went right over the line of players on Gracie’s side, and she tapped it in,” Konzak said.

Bison’s fast start fades vs. Manitowoc Lutheran

September 23, 2026

Random Lake/Ozaukee stayed with undefeated defending Big East Conference champion Manitowoc Lutheran for a half last Friday, but RLO couldn’t hang with the Lancers for the entire game.

The Bison trailed 14-0 at halftime and lost, 42-0, in Ozaukee’s homecoming game.

“They’re the better team right now. We were able to play with them for awhile but made too many mistakes as the game wore on,” RLO coach Cole Large said.

Grafton hangs on to beat Kewaskum

September 23, 2026

Grafton High School’s football team, playing nearly its second full game without star running back Jack Nelson, took a lead at Kewaskum and turned away the Indians’ comeback last Friday in a 22-17 win.

Quarterback Hunter Klippel ran nine times for 146 yards and two touchdowns. Owen Deer ran 12 times for 150 yards and a touchdown. Andy Tran ran five times for 45 yards.

The Black Hawks ran 29 times for 346 yards, averaging 11.9 yards per carry.

Klippel went 3-for-7 passing for 28 yards in the pouring rain.

Port Washington’s fab four:

September 16, 2026

The Port Washington High School boys’ soccer team did a dangerous thing it could at Grafton last Thursday.

It took the lead.

That hasn’t been a good omen in the annual battle for the Timm Snider Trophy. The Pirates have staged dramatic comebacks in recent memory to win the past three seasons.

This time, however, junior striker Scotty Bennett and the rest of the Pirates wouldn’t let the Black Hawks back into the game.

Bennett had a hat trick, scoring three different ways in the 3-0 victory.

Pack running packs a punch for Warriors

September 16, 2026

Ozaukee High School’s cross country teams achieved two three-peats to start the season.

Both squads notched their third straight victory in the small school division of the Poynette Invitational, last Thursday.

“I think they’re off to a decent start because mentally they are locked in on the season,” coach Andrew Pfeuffer said. “We have a lot of athletes that are passionate about running and competing, which is starting to translate to placing well at meets.”

The boys scored 39 points, edging Big East Conference rival Sheboygan Lutheran’s 51, in the eight-team meet.

Former star takes over Grafton swim

September 16, 2026

A key member from the golden age of Grafton High School girls’ swimming is now running the program.

Mallory Fox, one of the most decorated swimmers in program history with 11 medals and a member of teams that won a state championship, finished runner-up and in third, is the Black Hawks’ new head coach.

“It was really kind of surreal walking in there and seeing the pool,” Fox said.

Grafton cross country building under inspirational coach

September 16, 2026

Grafton High School has a deep boys’ cross country team this season and is rebuilding the girls’ squad.

The Black Hawks also have a new coach. The boys’ coach Derek Lindstrom has taken over the entire program and provides his runners with an inspirational leader.

Lindstrom has been a distance runner for years before it was discovered he had a damaged heart in 2018. He had a defibrillator and pacemaker installed, which saved his life twice.

Sullivan catches fire, much to Kewaskum’s chagrin

September 16, 2026

The best offensive player on the field last Friday in Kewaskum may have been Port Washington High School’s Kiya Sullivan. The senior wideout caught five passes for 206 yards and two touchdowns.

There may be less doubt as to the best defensive player in the Pirates’ 29-7 win. Sullivan recovered two fumbles when the Indians neared Port’s goal-line, returning one 84 yards for a touchdown, and he made a sliding interception to thwart another possible scoring drive.

“He had an incredible game,” coach John Bunyan said. “He shined.”

Stefanich’s star blooming for RLO football team

September 16, 2026

Jeffrey Stefanich is developing into a force on both sides of the ball, and Random Lake/Ozaukee high school’s football team has won three of its first four games.

The latest victory came in a 13-7 battle over Reedsville at in Random Lake last Friday.

Stefanich had 17 carries for 109 yards, and he made 10 tackles and intercepted a pass.

“He was dynamic,” RLO coach Cole Large said. “I think he’s shown it now.”

The Bison stopped the Panthers on fourth down near midfield with about three minutes to go in the game, then iced it.
