Youth Plein Air art contest winners named
The winners of the 21st annual youth plein air art contest have been announced by the Cedarburg Cultural Center.
The annual contest for youth ages 17 and younger ran through June 17. and brought in more than 109 pieces of art.
The artwork was judged by professional artist Janann Miller, who has taught art with the Whitefish Bay School District for than 30 years and is a long-time member of the Cedarburg Artists Guild.
In addition, the contest included a People’s Choice award determined by those visiting the center.
The People’s Choice Award went to Ashley Commons, 17, for “Summertime at the Java House.”
In the 5 and younger category, first place went to William Whaley, 5, for “The Bridge at the Park;” second place to Harrison Reid Schley, 5, “Little Bay Dock;” and honorable mentions to Freya Khan, 3, for “Woodland Dreams” and Saga Killeen, 5, for “Bumblee.”
In the ages 6 to 8 category, first place went to Gabby Adams, 7, for “The Neighborhood of Life;” second place to Asher Steuerwalds,7, for “The River;” and honorable mentions to Galloway Killeen, 8, for “Breakwall” and Remi Flunker, 6, for “Bridge Street Bridge.”
In the ages 9 to 12 category, first place went to Miles Krogman, 9, for “Snapdragons on the Garden Path;” second place to Grace DeLaCerda-Ard, 9, for “Lake Michigan;” and honorable mentions went to Violet McCurdy, 9, for “Anvil Pub & Grill,” Genevieve Stone, 9, for “Plein Stage,” Lily Bicek, 9, for “The Bridge,” Stella Kiesow, 11, for “Beautiful Gazebo,” Maggie Mongoven, 12, for “The Garden Home” and Grace Bishop, 9, for “Cedar Creek.”
In the ages 13 to 17 category, first place went to Ashley Commons, 17, for “Summertime at the Java House;” second place to Allison Monka, 14, for “Frog Fishing” and honorable mention to Eliona Pope, 17, for “Quiet Overlook.”
The artworks will be on display at the center, W62 N546 Washington Ave., through Sunday, July 14.
The center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
