YOUR PIX: These polar bears weren’t hibernating

New Year’s Day usually brings a pack of polar bears to the Port Washington lakefront for the ritual dip into Lake Michigan called the Polar Bear Plunge, but not this year. Though the 2021 plunge was cancelled, that didn’t stop Jamie Karrels (left) and Emily Volkmann, both of Grafton. The air was 30 degrees Fahrenheit and the water temperature was barely above freezing when the brave girls took their plunge into the surf breaking on south beach. Bragging rights were assured by the photos taken by Carla Karrels.
