YOUR PIX: A new bird in town

A host of aquatic birds, from big, muscular white pelicans to pint-size, acrobatic terns, drop in for visits to the Port Washington harbor, briefly joining a resident population of geese, gulls and ducks of serveral varieties, but rarely is a common loon among them. Scott Karcher of Cedarburg spied this one from Coal Dock Park. Loons, at home on north woods lakes in summer, are usually found well south of Wisconsin this time of the year. Famous for their eerie calls, they are formidable fish hunters. Photo by Scott Karcher
