YOUR PIX: Handsome heron a hopeful sign for threatened swamp

People who know the swampy area along the Interurban Trail near the Ozaukee-Sheboygan County border as an attraction for a rich variety of native and migratory waterfowl were distressed to learn of the derailment of train cars and a spill of their coal cargo near this habitat in late June. Among them was Nancy Camden of Mequon, who calls the green swamp her “favorite place on earth” and feared its feathered denizens would be injured by the pollution. But on a recent bike ride near the swamp, she was relieved to come across this small member of the heron family, a green heron that in the photo Nancy took looked hale and hardy and quite handsome.
