Young Legion team goes 1-2 at state

The Grafton American Legion 16 and younger baseball team had a hard act to follow at the state tournament in Onalaska last month.
The Patriots won three of four games via walkoff just to qualify for state.
The thrills didn’t slow much in the opening game on July 23. Grafton hung on to beat Beaver Dam, 5-4.
The next day, La Crosse beat Grafton, 6-2, and on Sunday, July 25, Delafield beat the Patriots in a 9-8 walkoff to end their season in the double-elimination tournament.
La Crosse went 5-0 to win the tournament.
The Patriots earned three tournament honors.
Colin Halderman was named the leading hitter, and he and Jack Sommers were named to the state tournament team.
Jay Schwenn is the Patriots’ coach.
