Work on Hwy. H interchange, Hwy. LL to begin this spring
Construction on Highway LL and around the Highway H and I-43 interchange near Port Washington’s north side will get underway sometime this spring after the county earlier this month awarded a $1 million contract to a Waukesha company to do the work.
LaLonde Contractors, Inc. was awarded the contract for $1.1 million to rebuild Highway LL from Wisconsin Street to Highland Road, Highway H from the I-43 ramps to Highway KW and the I-43 ramp area at Highway H.
LaLonde submitted the low bid and was awarded the contract over two other companies.
Last year, the county attempted to obtain bids to rebuild Highway LL but none were received because the project, costing $600,000, was too small, officials said.
This year the county tried again by combining it with the two Highway H projects plus another at Highway LL and Highway KK.
The low bid for all four projects, however, came in at $1.42 million, which was over the county’s estimated budget.
The LL and KK project was removed from the project list and will be rebid in a couple years, county Public Works Director Jon Edgren said.
Including a $95,900 design contract and a construction management contract of $139,666, the total project cost will be about $1.33 million.
Ozaukee County is already approved for about $700,000 in County Highway Improvement Program funds from the state, leaving the county to foot the rest of the approximately $630,000.
The exact start date isn’t known, Edgren said. He also wasn’t sure how long the project would last.
Plans call for the I-43 overpass to remain open throughout construction, he said.
