Woman dies after being hit by truck in yard; driver cited for DWI

An 82-year-old Town of Saukville woman was killed Saturday, May 16, while trimming grass near a ditch at her home when a pick-up truck driven by a 34-year-old West Bend man veered across the road and struck her, according to the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at 3:35 p.m. on Highway Y about a third of a mile north of St. Augustine Road.

According to authorities, Marlene Braun was killed when a white 2012 Ford F150 pickup truck headed south and driven by Matthew Anderson drifted over the center line and into the northbound lane and ditch where it struck and killed Braun.

The truck then struck a power pole, breaking it off.  

Anderson was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was subsequently arrested.

Also responding were the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Mequon Police Department, Cedarburg Fire Department, Cedarburg Emergency Management, Thiensville Fire Department and Newburg Fire Department. 

Anderson was cited on Monday for first-offense drunken driving, according to online court records. He is scheduled to appear in Ozaukee County Circuit Court at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 21. Bond was set at $937.50.

No criminal charges had been issued as of Tuesday, May 19.
