Winter transforms lakefront in the blink of an eye

Lake Michigan waves whipped up by a southeast gale Tuesday acted like bulldozers pushing tons of ice that had formed on the lake during the recent cold snap ashore in dramatic fashion. Almost instantly, large ice banks formed along Port Washington’s shoreline north of the breakwater, and pack ice that undulated as waves rolled in stretched as far as the eye could see.
