Where there’s a will, there’s a Fish Day celebration

As it did with nearly all local festivals this summer, the Covid-19 pandemic took its toll on the annual Fish Day celebration in Port Washington, which was cancelled for 2020. However, the Port Washington Lions Club did its best to uphold the tradition by offering a smaller-scale family gathering on the lakefront last Friday and Saturday. Club members served fish and chips, along with beverages and merchandise, at the Kiwanis Pavilion. (Clockwise from top left photo) Club member Brian Barber offered “Cohorona Virus” themed T-shirts as a Fish Day commemorative; serving up fish and chips at the concessions stand were Lions members Sri Vasudevan, Joel Greisch, Paige Krist, Jay Belke and Tami Belke; enjoying their meals were (from left) Nicholas Berth, Nick Bensen, Kyle Bensen and Leslie Malicki. In keeping with a related tradition last weekend, Newport Shores restaurant near the pavilion held its annual Fish Day Eve celebration with live outdoor music.                        Photos by Sam Arendt
