Fielding a full team for the first time this season led to another first for the Ozaukee High School girls in the Howards Grove Quint on May 18, namely in where they placed.

The Warriors won the meet with 92 points behind seven event victories. Manitowoc Lutheran was second with 83 points, followed by Howards Grove, 57; Kohler, 47; and Hilbert, 44.

Warrior senior Kelley Large won the 800-meter race in 2 minutes, 46.6 seconds, and the 1,600 in six minutes flat. Brynn Meyer won the long in 15-11 and triple jump in 33-3.25.

Senior Delanie McFadden, in her first competition of the season after recovering from an injury, won the 100 in 12.29, faster than her 12.49 time that took fourth at the Division 3 state meet in 2019. McFadden won the 200 at the state meet and helped the 800 relay team to third.

At Howards Grove, Hannah Bustamante won the high jump, clearing 4 feet, 9 inches, and the 3,200 relay of Grace Tinder, Ally Clark, Becky Hoffmann and Amy Hoffmann won in 11:00.6.

“Our girls did well with our small roster and against decent opponents,” coach Andrew Pfeuffer said. “This was the first time our full girls team competed all year, which was great to see.”

Clara McKee took second in the 1,600 in 6:01.7, less than two seconds behind Large, and was second in the 800 in 2:47.1.

Becky Hoffmann was second in the 300 hurdles in 48.99, and Amy Hoffmann was second in the 400 in 1:08.

Tinder was third in the 400 in 1:11.2 and Morgan Kimse was third in shot put with 30-2.

McKee goes the distance for the boys

Warrior Calvin McKee won the long race and then the longer one, taking the 1,600 in 4:48.8 and the 3,200 in 10:34.9.

That helped the boys score 34 points, but it wasn’t enough to get out of the cellar.

Hilbert won with 126 points, followed by Kohler, 99; Howards Grove, 48; and Manitowoc Lutheran, 36.

“Overall, our boys are continuing to learn a lot and gaining valuable experience each meet. They are also asking the right questions about competing and practicing, so I expect to see some big improvements down the stretch,” Pfeuffer said.

Matt Baldwin was second in the 800 in 2:12. Owen Klaus was third in the 1,600 in 4:55.4 and in the 800 in 2:12.4.

The teams compete in the Big East South Division Mini-Meet on Thursday at Oostburg.

CG-Belgiums small teams take last

The Cedar Grove-Belgium girls won three events and went 1-2-3 in the 1,600 for the second straight meet, but the Rockets’ 40 points was still at the bottom of a home quadrangular meet on May 18.

Oostburg won with 84 points. Mishicot had 55 and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah had 54.

In the 1,600, freshman Hadley Heimerman won in 5:58.12, followed by sophomore Faith Konzak in 6:01.92 and junior Lyndsay Sass in 6:06.9.

The order flipped from the May 11 race in Howards Grove, when Sass won, Konzak was second and Heimerman was third.

On May 18, the 1,600 relay of Konzak, Heimerman, Elise Brill and Sass won in 4:36.65.

The same four in a different order — Sass, Konzak, Brill and Heimerman — won the 3,200 relay in 10:38.48.

Senior Greta Beernink was second in the 400 in 1:07.61 and fourth in the 200 in 30.82.

Brill was second in the 800 in 2:44.73. Tara Schmitz was second in shot put with 26-0. Alyssa Winter was fourth in the triple jump with 24-1.5.

The Rocket boys scored 31 points behind their distance runners.

Junior Cole Ketterhagen won the 1,600 in 5:09.33, and freshman Michael Kuerschner was right behind in second in 5:09.59.

Kuerschner was second in the 800 in 2:24.01, and Ketterhagen was fourth in 2:28.13.

Oostburg won with 121 points. Mishicot had 47 and Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah had 36.

Sophomore Caleb Beightol was second in the 100 in 12:07 and fourth in the 200 in 24.73.

Senior Owen Williams was third in discus in 97-06.

The 1,600 relay of Logan Depies, Ketterhagen, Kuerschner and Ian Andersen was fourth in 4:05.43. Bradeon Pfaff was fourth in the triple jump in 28-0.25.

The Rockets were to compete in a Brillion invite on Tuesday and in the Big East South Division Mini-meet on Thursday at Oostburg.
