Wayne ‘Pete’ Meinen
Wayne “Pete” L. Meinen, 84, of Cedar Grove, died of complications of the flu Thursday, April 11, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
Mr. Meinen was born in Town of Holland on Aug. 16, 1934, to Arthur and Emily Meylink Meinen. He was a graduate of Cedar Grove High School.
On Dec. 28, 1956, he married Muriel Caljouw in Cedar Grove.
Mr. Meinen served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany following the Korean War.
After his service, Mr. Meinen worked as a project manager at Aldag Honald Mechanical Inc. in Sheboygan until his retirement in 1997.
He was a charter member of Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where he served as an elder, deacon and counselor. He also sang in the church choir and with his brothers in the Meinen Quartet.
His family said he enjoyed watching sports, fishing, golfing, bowling, taking vacations to the family beach house and traveling to all 50 states.
Mr. Meinen is survived by his wife Muriel of Cedar Grove; daughter Sandra (David) Werwath of Virginia Beach, Va.; sons Jim (Cory) of Cedar Grove and John (Cindy) of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren Trent (Halley) Werwath, Jamie (Abbie) Meinen, Natalie (Andrew) Farthing, Luke (Heather) Meinen, Whitney Werwath, Sadie (Matthew) Mentink, Callie Werwath, Weston Meinen, Kayleen Meinen, Patrick Meinen, Molly Meinen and Brenna Meinen; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He is further survived by sisters Ruth Kruis of Sheboygan Falls and Vera (Ray) Lammers of Florida; sisters-in-law Delores Meinen of Cedar Grove, Francis Meinen of Sheboygan Falls, Shirley (Robert) TenHaken of Boring, Ore., and Mary (Ronald) Huever of Mukwonago; and brother-in-law Robert (Donna) Caljouw of Oostburg.
Mr. Meinen was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Owen, Earl and Robert; sister-in-law Norie Meinen; brothers-in-law Harold Heinen and Lester Kruis; and parents-in-law Anthony and Alma Caljouw.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Faith Reformed Church in Cedar Grove with the Rev. Ron Sanford officiating.
Visitation will be at the church on Friday, April 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mr. Meinen’s name are suggested.
Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg is handling the arrangements.
