Volunteers, boats sought for vets outing

Volunteers are being sought to help with the 52nd annual Disabled Vets Fishing Outing that will be held Wednesday, June 25, at the Port Washington marina and Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Hall.

The event includes taking veterans from the Clement J Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Milwaukee out on the lake for a morning of fishing followed by a cookout and fish boil.

Boats are needed from 7:30 a.m. to noon to take the approximately 100 veterans fishing as well as volunteers to help them get on and off the boats.

People are also needed to work in the kitchen, clean fish and serve food and drinks to the veterans,

Anyone who can help cut up fruit and vegetables or set up tables is asked to be at the hall at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 24.

Volunteers are needed to bake cookies and bars, including sugar-free sweets, for the veterans, who appreciate the homemade treats. These can be dropped off at the Legion Hall, 435 Lake St., between 8 and 10:30 a.m. on June 25.

People are also needed to clean up after the meal at the hall.

Anyone who wants to volunteer their boat or their time is asked to call Mary at (920) 918-9144.

Boat owners should check in at the table outside the marina office by 7 a.m. June 25.
