Volleyball teams have rough week of play

Sans Cedar Grove-Belgium High School, last week was one to forget for area volleyball teams.

After being swept in their final Big East match on Oct. 8 to St. Mary Central, the Rockets went 3-0 in the six-team Silver Division of the conference tournament at Mishicot.

They swept Kohler and Mishicot and beat Sheboygan Lutheran in four games, 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19.

The Rockets play at rival Ozaukee in the playoffs on at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22.

The Warriors went 0-4 last week.

Ozaukee lost, 3-1, in their final Big East Conference match of the regular season Oct. 8 at Manitowoc Lutheran, 25-14, 25-13, 25-20.

Naomi Smith and Kayla Hamm each had five kills. Izzy Clark had 14 assists and went 10-1 serving. Madison Karmasin had 23 serve receives and went 11-1 serving. Nicole Liermann had 13 digs and 20 serve receives. Alyssa Laabs went 16-0 serving.

In the Big East Gold Bracket tournament at Howards Grove last Saturday, Ozaukee lost to Manitowoc Lutheran, 3-1, was swept by Hilbert and lost to Random Lake, 3-1.

Sydnie Stadler had 36 kills, 31 digs, 31 serve receives and went 39-3 serving. Liermann was 48-5 at the line, had 47 serve receives and 27 digs. Clark went 30-1 serving and had 62 assists.

Karmasin had 33 serve receives.

Nicolet topped Grafton on the road last Thursday, 25-17, 22-25, 25-17, 26-24.

Abby Proefrock had 15 kills and Julia Sandoval had 11.

Sandoval went 18-0 serving and Proefrock went 20-1. Proefrock had 17 digs and Sara Paschke had 16. Josephine Gust had 35 assists. Paschke had 27 serve receives with one error. Natalie McDaniel had 22 serve receives with zero errors.

The Hawks were to play at West Bend West on Tuesday.

Port Washington lost in five games on Oct. 8 to Brookfield Academy, 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-10; and was swept at Whitefish Bay last Thursday, 25-11, 25-9, 25-14.

Port hosted Hartford on Tuesday in a North Shore Conference match.
