Volleyball teams have mixed results
A pair strong efforts last week led the Ozaukee High School volleyball team to two Big East Conference victories.
The Warriors were not as successful in Saturday’s home invitational, where they went 1-3 overall.
On Sept. 10, Ozaukee swept the visiting Sheboygan Lutheran Crusaders, 25-22, 26-24 and 25-16. Sydnie Stadler had 14 kills, 13 digs, 17 serve receives and a 13-1 effort at the service line. Emma Poeschl tallied 10 digs and 16 serve receives. Izzy Clark contributed 26 assists and was perfect in 10 service attempts. Nicole Liermann had 10 serve receives and Alyssa Laabs was 12-0 at the line.
Last Thursday, Ozaukee won at Random Lake, 21-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 15-12.
Stadler had 27 kills and 16 digs. Clark had 36 assists and was 14-0 at the service line. Liermann was perfect in 23 service attempts and added 15 digs. Laabs missed just one serve in 27 attempts. Poeschl had 17 digs and 42 serve receives.
The Warriors hosted an invitational on Saturday. They lost to Milwaukee Reagan, North Fond du Lac and Brookfield Academy. They beat Lomira.
Ozaukee travels to Cedar Grove-Belgium Thursday for a Big East Conference match-up. On Saturday, the Warriors will host an invite beginning at 8:30 a.m. Competing schools include Campbellsport, Kiel, Living Word Lutheran, Random Lake, Sheboygan Christian and Ozaukee. On Sept. 24, the Warriors host Mishicot in another conference match.
CG-Belgium has up-and-down week
At last Saturday’s tournament at Sheboygan South, Cedar Grove-Belgium went 3-2. They beat Random Lake, Elkhart Lake Glenbeulah and Kohler and lost to Plymouth and Sheboygan North.
On Sept. 10, the Rockets lost to Random Lake, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17, 25-19 on Sept. 10.
Last Thursday, the Rockets won at Sheboygan Lutheran, 25-15, 25-9, 22-25, 25-19.
The Rockets host Ozaukee on Thursday and Howards Grove on Sept. 24.
Grafton tops conference opponent
Grafton went 1-2 in a Fond du Lac invite last Saturday, losing to the hosts and Denmark while beating Oshkosh North.
On Sept. 10, the Black Hawks swept North Shore Conference foe West Bend East, 25-16, 26-24, 15-17. Abby Proefrock had 11 kills and 11 digs. Josephine Gust had 22 assists. Sara Paschke had 18 serve receives.
The Hawks host Whitefish Bay Thursday and play at Hartford on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Slinger sweeps Port Washington
Slinger swept Port Washington on Sept. 10, 25-6, 25-21, 25-12.
The Pirates play at West Bend West Thursday, are at a Wauwatosa West tournament on Saturday and host Cedarburg on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
