Virtual poetry reading will be held on April 19
A poetry reading of original works by three local poets will be live-streamed via Gallery 224’s website in Port Washington at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 19.
The reading will be followed by a question-and-answer period.
Karl Pradel, Gallery 224’s poetry coordinator, said he has been thrilled with the response to the gallery’s poetry readings.
“What was initially an experiment has evolved into a series. We’ve attracted some incredible talent, and the attendance has rivaled readings taking place in Milwaukee and other big cities. It’s talent, energy and environment converging, and a community eager to support.” he said.
The poets, all from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, are Kathryne David Gargano, Korey Hurni and Beatrice Szymkowiak.
Hurni, who earned his master of fine arts degree at Western Michigan University, is pursuing his doctorate at UWM.
Gargano is a poet and budding fiction writer from Portland, Ore., who earned her master of fine arts degree from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and is pursuing a doctorate at UWM. Her work has been published in Rust + Moth, F(r)iction, Synaesthesia, Colorado Review and other publications.
Szymkowiak earned her master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts in 2017. She teaches English at UWM, where she is pursuing a doctorate in creative writing. Her work has appeared in several poetry magazines and reviews, and her first chapbook “Red Zone” was released in fall 2018.
The reading can be accessed at Gallery224.org.
