Village plans to fill vacant trustee seat
The Saukville Village Board is seeking candidates to replace former Trustee David Maglio.
During Tuesday’s Finance Committee meeting, Village Administrator Dawn Wagner said Maglio recently moved from the village and is no longer eligible to serve on the board.
Maglio, who now lives in Sheboygan, had been a trustee since 2009 and was serving a two-year term that ends in April 2022. Among his committee memberships, he was chairman of public safety.
The Finance Committee discussed at length the process to appoint a new trustee. Trustee Trevor Seitz suggested a decision be delayed until next April’s election, but other trustees said that would limit the board to four members.
Wagner said the Village Board has traditionally interviewed candidates for the vacant seat, a method the committee unanimously recommended to the board.
In the past, Village President Barb Dickmann and Trustee Richard Belling were appointed as trustees by the same process.
Dickmann asked trustees to come up with a list of questions for candidates for the village’s attorney to review by next week.
The Village Board will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, June 21, to interview candidates separately before choosing Maglio’s successor.
On Tuesday, June 22, the board is expected to reaffirm its decision and swear in the appointee. The appointed trustee will serve the balance of Maglio’s term.
Residents interested in applying for the position should send a letter of intent and resume to the village by Tuesday, June 15.
“We really want to cast a wide net, and our village has many qualified people to fulfill this position,” Dickmann said, noting she hopes at least six people apply for the position.
