Trio of Pirates earn spots on the podium in home swim invitational

Strube and Henschel take home two medals and freshman Nisiewicz wins one; team finishes in sixth

Three Port Washington High School swimmers stood out at the Pirate Invite on Saturday.

Sophomore Edynn Strube finished fourth place in the 50-yard freestyle in 28.74 seconds and fifth place in the 100 freestyle in 1 minute, 2.46 seconds.

Junior Laylah Henschel took fifth in the 200 individual medley in 2:44.76 and sixth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:23.04.

Freshman Anna Nisiewicz was sixth in the 200 individual medley in 2:44.93.

The Pirates scored 236.5 points and finished sixth of eight teams, about the same as last year.

“We still have a lot of new talent on this team, so this is about where we expected to finish,” co-coach Danielle Peiffer said.

“Next year, we’re on track to finish higher in the rankings if this group continues on its trajectory.”

Other top finishes included the 400 freestyle relay of Nisiewicz, Ellie Knepfel, Drue Nelson and Strube, which took sixth in 4:26.86.

Sophia Panek tied for seventh in the 50 freestyle in 29.26.

Lily Kerbel was seventh in the 100 backstroke in 11:12.44 and eighth in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.23. Knepfel was eighth in the 500 freestyle in 6:17.33.

The 200 medley relay of Kerbel, Henschel, Rebecca Uttke and Nelson were eighth in 2:16.85.

Nisiewicz was ninth in the 100 butterfly in 1:18.05.

The 200 freestyle relay of Elaina Perez, Nora Richmond, Cate Gaskell and Henschel was ninth in 2:08.9.

The West Bend Co-op won themeet with 505 points. Kohler/Sheboygan Lutheran/Sheboygan Falls was second with 399.

Last Thursday, Port lost at home to Nicolet, 121-60.

Henschel won the 100 breaststroke in 1:23.78 and Kerbel won the 100 backstroke in 1:11.64.

Henschel was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:43.78. Strube was second in teh 50 freestyle in 28.46. Maddie Mellesmoen was second in diving with 135.85 points.

The 200 freestyle relay of Henschel, Richmond, Teagan Zuraw and Strube was second in 2:00.55.

Port swims in the North Shore Conference Relays at Nicolet on Thursday, Sept. 26, in a Plymouth invite on Saturday, Sept. 28, and at Whitefish Bay on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
