Town to mow portion of land

Land on a Town of Belgium portion of Sandy Beach South will again be cleared.

The Town decided to do the job during its road inspection in spring.

“I believe there’s probably some people who planted some trees and stuff in there that they weren’t supposed to. We’re going to be mowing it down,” Supr. Bill Janeshek said.

In other tree news, Fire Chief Pat Wester said the department found 52 addresses on lake roads that have trees hanging over the road getting in the way of fire trucks.

Pink ribbons were hung on trees that need trimming, and homeowners were either talked to or had a note left on their door. They have 30 days to trim the trees. The department did not check driveways, just the road. Wester advised residents to make sure driveways are clear as well. The clearance requirement is 14 feet wide by 14 feet high.
