Town EMS tax levy hike to be decided by electors
An electors meeting will be held to decide whether the Town of Fredonia will increase its tax levy next year to fund its share of joint paramedic services between the villages and towns of Fredonia and Belgium.
To maintain its contracted paramedic service with the Village of Fredonia, the town must increase its levy by a yet-to-be-determined amount next year, Town Clerk Christophe Jenkins said.
The meeting will be held “around October,” he said.
The town’s obligation is funded this year by American Rescue Plan Act funds through an Ozaukee County grant that will cover a portion of next year’s expenses before running out, he said.
The cost formula for each village and town is based on population, call volume and equalized value of property improvement.
The villages of Fredonia and Belgium will hold referendums to ask voters to raise tax levies in November.
Because the Town of Fredonia has fewer than 3,000 residents, it can hold an electors meeting instead of a referendum.
The Town of Belgium will also hold an electors meeting.
