Three veteran supervisors not seeking re-election

Three long-time Ozaukee County supervisors have announced they will not run for  another two-year term in April.

Barb Jobs, who represents the Third District in the Town of Saukville, Tom Richart, who represents the 12th District in Grafton, and Bruce Ross, who represents the 19th District in Mequon, each filed notices of non-candidacy with the County Clerk’s Office.

Incumbents not seeking re-election have until 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 26,  to file a notice of noncandidacy with the clerk’s office. Failure to do so will extend the Jan. 6 deadline for candidates to file nomination papers by 72 hours through Friday, Jan. 9.

Richart has served on the County Board for 25 years. Only Port Washington Supr. Rick Nelson has served as long. Richart currently serves on the Health and Human Services Committee, which oversees the Human Services Department and the Lasata Senior Living Campus.

The 12th District includes Village of Grafton Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 and is roughly located north of Washington Street, south of Pleasant Valley Road, east of Green Valley Road and west of Cheyenne Avenue.

According to the County Clerk’s website, Melissa Custer has declared her candidacy to replace Richart but has not filed her nomination papers.

Jobs has been a county supervisor since 2012 and is a former chairman of the Town of Saukville. She serves on the Natural Resources Committee, including as its chairman and vice chairman, which oversees the county parks and planning, land and water and conservation departments.

The Third District encompasses the Town of Saukville and part of the Town of Fredonia south of Highway H west of the Village of Fredonia and south of Highway A east of Highway KK.

Ross was elected to the County Board in 2018. He also currently serves on the Natural Resources Committee.

The 19th District encompasses a large swath of northwest Mequon bounded by Wausaukee Road east to the Milwaukee River and from Pioneer Road south to Friestadt Road.

Candidates for the County Board could begin circulating petitions on Dec. 1. Petitions must have at least 20 signatures.

So far, only Supr. Jack Arnett, who represents the 17th District in Cedarburg, has submitted nomination papers with 39 signatures.

All 26 County Board seats will be on the Tuesday, April 7, ballot. If more than two candidates run for any of the seats, a primary will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 17.

County Offices that will appear on the November 2026 ballot are sheriff and clerk of court.
