Teaching children the joy of fishing

Every year, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources sponsors an Ozaukee County fishing clinic at Harrington Beach State Park in the Town of Belgium that typically produces a lot of big smiles on the faces of children like Cortney (left) and Scott Gantner (lower right), who proudly displayed the fish they caught in the park’s Puckett Pond during the clinic last month. Before children wet their lines, they received instruction from volunteers that included Jerry Carmody, who taught Alice Brotherhood how to use a rod and reel (top right). Fishing equipment and lunch are provided at the clinics, which are held in June. Photos by Sam Arendt
