Cedar Grove-Belgium High School boys’ basketball coach Josh Ketterhagen warned that the schedule will get more difficult, but the Rockets handled their first two opponents of the season.

Last Friday, the Rockets beat Sheboygan Christian, 73-64, to improve to 2-0.

They went 7-for-16 on three-pointers. Matt Voskuil led the team by going 2-for-2 and had 17 points for the game.

“It was a good night for him,” Ketterhagen said. “I thought we shot the ball better from the outside.”

Jacob Peiffer scored a team-high 18 points, going 9-for-10 from the field, and handling the inside well. He also had seven rebounds.

“Jacob Peiffer shot the ball really well around the basket,” Ketterhagen said.

Michael Navis scored nine points and dished out five assists while making three steals.

Logan Arrowood had eight points. Jeffrey Emperley and Max Ford each scored six points and each dished out five assists. Sam Peiffer had five points, five assists and three steals.

The Rockets led, 36-25, at halftime, but the Eagles wouldn’t go away. Ketterhagen said his team held a lead of about four to 10 points for most of the game.

“Sheboygan Christian came out really battling. They played extremely hard,” Ketterhagen said.

“It felt like a pretty tight game. We couldn’t break away until eight mintes or so into the second half. I thought our guys held their own and took care of the basketball.”

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, the Rockets dominated smaller Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, 73-32.

Nine Rockets scored, led by Ford’s 17. He went 3-for-7 on three-pointers.

“It was a good night of balance. I don’t think we shot particularly well aside from Max,” Ketterhagen said. “Max had a nice night, shot the ball really well.”

Navis had 11 points. Sam Peiffer scored 10 and Jacob Peiffer, Voskuil and Arrowood each scored eight.

The Resorters, Ketterhagen said, have a young team with many players doing double duty on varsity and junior varsity. The Rockets have more experience and depth.

“We played really well and were able to do what we wanted to do and didn’t allow them to do anything,” Ketterhagen said.

The Rockets were scheduled to host Random Lake (1-0) on Tuesday and host rival Oostburg (1-0) on Friday. They play at Manitowoc Lutheran (2-0) on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
