A suspected drug dealer who was arrested in August after authorities found bags of marijuana, nearly $3,000 in cash and loaded guns in his Saukville apartment was sentenced to 18 months in prison last week.

John W. Hendrickson, 33, who pleaded guilty to one felony count of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver during a Nov. 17 hearing in Ozaukee County Circuit Court, was also sentenced by Judge Sandy Williams to two years of extended supervision.

Charges of maintaining a drug trafficking place and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed as part of a plea agreement but read into the record, which means that Williams could consider them when sentencing Hendrickson.

On Aug. 11, officers from the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office and Saukville Police Department searched Hendrickson’s apartment in the 100 block of South Mayfair Drive.

Hendrickson was home at the time and said he was not going to open the door for the authorities, who had a search warrant and entered the apartment anyway.

In the living room, authorities found $1,665 in cash bound with a rubber band.

More cash was found in Hendrickson’s bedroom, along with a THC vape pen, scale and vacuum-seal bags.

Also found in his bedroom were two loaded, high-powered rifles under a blanket on the bed. A gun case and ammunition were under the bed.

In an extra bedroom, authorities found two backpacks — one blue, the other white — that contained Mason jars and bags of marijuana.

A total of 1,057 grams of marijuana and $2,982 was recovered from the apartment.

Hendrickson was arrested, and shortly after being booked in the county jail he placed a call to his mother asking her if there were two backpacks — “blue or white,” he said — in front of the closet in his apartment, according to the criminal complaint.

When his mother said she didn’t see the bags, Hendrickson cursed, then later said, “I’m probably looking at prison for this, by the way,” the complaint states.

Because of the amount of marijuana found in his apartment, as well as items like the scale, vacuum bags and cash, authorities suspect Hendrickson was dealing drugs, according to the complaint.

“The fact that the defendant was armed is also consistent with street-level drug dealing, as drug dealers frequently go armed to protect themselves from rival dealers, opportunistic drug robbers and the police,” the complaint states.
