Students invited to enter Flag Day essay contest
Students in grades four through 12 are invited to write about “What the American Flag Means to Me” for the National Flag Day Foundation’s annual essay contest. Students in public, private, home or virtual schools may participate.
The essays must be 150 words long for students in grades four and five, 250 words for students in grades six and seven and 500 words for students in grades eight to 12.
The essays will be judged based on composition, originality, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
The first and second-place winners in each age group will be awarded $250 and $125, respectively.
The essays, which are due April 30, may be emailed to essay@nationalflagday.com or mailed to National Flag Day Observance, P.O. Box 55, Waubeka 53021.
A cover sheet that includes the contestant’s name, grade, name of school, home address and phone number should be included. The winners will be notified by phone.
