Student art show, story times among library events

The artwork of Port Washington and Saukville students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be on display at the Oscar Grady Library in Saukville through April 26.

The exhibit includes drawing, paintings, photography, sculpture and jewelry.

The library is also hosting morning story times from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays through April 25.

The story times, which are for children and their caregivers, feature rhymes, songs, dancing and stories written for 2 to 5-year-olds.

Evening story times will be held from 6:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays through April 26 and feature stories and songs for families. Children can come in their pajamas and bring a stuffed animal.

Story times are free but registration is encouraged and can be done by calling the library at (262) 284-6022.

On Saturday, April 22, the library will present “Wanted: Fairy Godmother” as part of the Bug in a Rug Children’s Theater program.

“Wanted: Fairy Godmother” is an updated and interactive retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood.” The story follows Red as she skips to her grandmother’s house, but this isn’t the same Little Red that readers of the classic story know. Watch as characters look beyond the big ears, eyes and teeth and learn not to judge a book by its cover.

Bug in a Rug Theater is a casual and fun introduction to the performing arts that encourages laughter and audience participation.

The program will run from noon to 1 p.m.

The Friends of Oscar Grady Library will host its annual book sale from Tuesday, May 2, through Saturday, May 6.

The sale will feature books, magazines and other media all for $2 or less.

Volunteers are needed to sort books and set up for the sale on Saturday, April 29 and Monday May 1; to work during the sale; and to clean up after it on Monday May 8.

Volunteers can sign up at www.oscargradylibrary.org or in person at the library.

Proceeds from the sale are used to fund the library’s summer reading program and events.

For more information about the book sale, contact Lori Plutowski, president of the Friends group, at friendsofoscargradylibrary@gmail.com or Library Director Emily Laws at elaws@village.saukville.wi.us.

The Oscar Grady Library is at 151 S. Main St.
